I've now made two Nikko Tops and I just love this fall staple! View & Sizing:I made view B (long sleeve, shirt) in a straight size 2, following the sizing chart below. I shortened the bodice 2 inches and the sleeves 1 inch. On my first version (the purple) the biceps were a bit tight, and to address this on the second version I adjusted the 3/8" seam allowance to a 1/4" seam allowance and that subtle change was all I needed! Materials: Fabric is from Blackbird Fabrics, I used the Cotton Modal Jersey in the Wisteria and Slate Blue colorways. The fabric is delightful, but on the low end of the stretch required for this pattern (its about 70% stretch, the pattern calls for 75%). I added Intensely Distracted labels to the neckband, prior to folding them so the seam isn't visible on the back of the shirt. Construction:This pattern came together SEW easily! I used my serger for the majority, and only switched to my regular machine for the sleeves and hem. It's rare to have a first go at a pattern without needing to rip any stitches, but with this being very straightforward, no mistakes were made! True Bias did a great job with clear instructions, on the second shirt I didn't need to reference the instructions since they came together very logically. Final Thoughts:I'll absolutely be making this pattern again! The only hesitation I have is that BOY OH BOY was it hard to find a bra to wear under it. I own exactly one padded bralette, so that's what I had to go with. My Hanna Bralette's showed the lace and seaming details too closely, and my unpadded bralettes nip real bad. I'm also going to ensure I buy fabric that is genuinely 75% or greater stretch, the 70% stretch I used was pushing it around the biceps and getting my head through the neckband. It's a fantastic fall/winter staple and pairs perfectly with my beloved Free Range Slacks.

About FrancescaI got my first sewing machine middle school, circa 2005 (although I don't remember learning much in the way of sewing). After a long hiatus, I was reunited with my machine in 2019. I re-entered the hobby through gear-making, and have been crafting a handmade wardrobe since late 2020. I have a real affinity for comfy clothes (secret pajamas) and all the colors! Archives
