The second I saw this pattern I knew I needed it in my wardrobe and I was so right! View & Sizing:This jacket is meant to be over sized, and I'm thinking I probably could have made a size 2 and been fine, since there's a negligible difference in the final garment measurements. However, I love how over sized it is so I'll be sticking to a size 4 going forward (I might shorten the sleeves 1" next time). Materials:I used a fabulous 7oz linen from Blackbird Fabrics in the Pine colorway. It was so lovely to work with, and I made several yards of bias binding out of my scraps to bind all the seams. I used a Kylie and the Machine "I love linen" label, which I'm tempted to use on all my makes! Construction:I LOVED the construction of this garment! It's so clever, and having made several Gilbert Tops now, I'm very familiar with how Helen's Closet organizes her instructions. I opted to bias bind all the seams, which was a first for me! Next time I won't bias bind the shoulder seams on the facing because it made the shoulders quite bulky! I know folks love contrasting seam binding, but I just loved this pine green linen so much I wanted to use it for everything! My absolute favorite part of constructing the Pona Jacket is how the front facing pieces connect to the hem. The facing is shorter so it pulls the hem up naturally, and leads to a very clean finish! This is definitely a beginner friendly jacket and can be constructed entirely without a serger! I highly recommend it! Final Thoughts:I will absolutely be making more Pona Jackets, and have even thought through a few hacks to add buttons and raise the neckline for a whole other look! I want to make view A (the longer version) like right now but I have too many other projects on my to do list first! I love cardigans, but they haven't been fitting into my now heavily-linen oriented wardrobe, and the Pona Jacket is the perfect layer!

About FrancescaI got my first sewing machine middle school, circa 2005 (although I don't remember learning much in the way of sewing). After a long hiatus, I was reunited with my machine in 2019. I re-entered the hobby through gear-making, and have been crafting a handmade wardrobe since late 2020. I have a real affinity for comfy clothes (secret pajamas) and all the colors! Archives
